Here is a picture I found on Flicker from the Maritime Self-Defense Force Kure base.
Now I wonder with all the talk of military buildup in China and by the way it's true the Chinese are building... what would happen if we started selling nuclear weapons platforms to Japan?
One of the things that was a bit disappointing about being in submarines was the fact that we couldn't go to a lot of ports. That's probably a good thing in some cases but wow it would have been great to visit more places.
The USS Augusta Commissioning crew did get a great visit to the Caribbean that I'll never forget. We filled one of the torpedo tubes with duty free booze for the trip back home. Wow !! The Cruzan Rum on St. Croix was somewhere between 2$ and 4$ a bottle.

Wow. That pic of the Harbor @ Kure at night is stunning.
Given the history between Japan and China we can't easily sell nuclear platforms to Japan. It would be seen as an aggressive move.
Likewise, my understanding of the Chinese build up is that it isn't on the eastern coast.
