The Next Generation Diesel Submarines

With all kinds of navies around the world buying brand new diesel boats from Russia, why can't the US get into the game? We used to build kick-butt diesel boats and when the nuclear age started, the US just plain stopped building the non-nuke subs.

According to MilitaryPhotos.net the Russians have sold Kilo Class diesel submarines recently to Algeria and Venezuela. Well I don't mind not selling those 2 countries any military hardware. It's usually a good idea to not sell weapons to places run by nut bags. But The Vietnamese have purchased 6 Kilo's from Russia and they are allies and the only country in the region with more or less recent military victories over China. Why are we letting the Russians get a 6 Billion USD contract without even trying for it? Wow.

The Indian Navy is also buying diesel electric submarines - locally manufactured - and one of their shipyards is booked until 2018 with orders! Mazgaon Docks Limited is building the Scorpene class.

Maybe we could sell someone the USS Ling since we seem hell bent on NOT building any diesel electric boats despite the contracts being sold left and right to ally nations.
